Regional Development of SMEs in Aktobe Oblast

The contract aimed to achieve the following specific goals:

Improve the competitiveness of current enterprises by introducing new technology and modernizing production and management techniques, particularly in food processing, goods distribution, wholesaling, and marketing.

Assist in the development of suitable and effective business support structures.
Support the development of micro-enterprises (1-10 employees) in rural areas, including cottage industries in both food and non-food sectors, suppliers to extractive industries, and local service providers.
Develop micro-finance and credit unions to provide non-bank access to finance for SMEs that lack access to commercial bank loans.
Develop Education and Training Programmes: Create education and training programmes in schools and technical colleges that are responsive to market needs.
Provide training, human resource development (HRD) support, institutional development, and capacity enhancement measures at all levels, within the framework of developing a comprehensive support infrastructure for enterprise development within the oblast.

The project’s activities were coordinated with the oblast Department for SME support and other relevant stakeholders. The Project’s central office was located in Aktobe, with pilot activities focused in the Martuk and Alga rayons, where regional offices were established.

Technical Assistance: Offering expert guidance and support to improve enterprise operations.
Capacity Building: Enhancing the skills and capabilities of partner and beneficiary organizations.
Training: Conducting training sessions to improve knowledge and skills in various areas.
Subcontracting Management: Organizing and monitoring subcontracting activities with local consulting companies.
